Happier than God

Turn Ordinary Life into an Extraordinary Experience

It was as if God said "... this is the easiest question you've asked me since the beginning."

"Happily, this book came through in about 12 days. Boom! There it was. It was as if God said "this is pretty simple, this is the easiest question you've asked me since the beginning. Here's the answer to that, I can give you this in a few days. You can have this book written as fast as you can write."

These words come from Neale Donald Walsh about his newest and as-yet-unpublished book Happier than God.

"The whole book came through to me in less than two weeks and I'll tell you why: you know sometimes, this transformation thing, this game that we play here on the earth, it starts to feel pretty heavy or if not heavy, at least serious, we're really involved with serious stuff here... and you know me from having contact with me I'm not a real serious guy, I mean I'm pretty light-hearted about a lot of things, and there's a lot of humour that resides in me but its more than this humour, I have a point of view about life that it should be a pretty happy experience!"

People Unhappy Everywhere

Nobody seems to be able to sustain happiness as a way of life

"I was looking around me about four months ago and realising that not a lot of people were happy and even those who were happy were happy just a little bit here and a little bit there, but I know very few people who are happy in the long term, over more than just a moment or two; they seem to go from hills to valleys to hills to valleys; they have peaks of happiness and then valleys of difficulty and struggle, and then maybe they have a nice evening or weekend or maybe even a good month – but nobody seems to be able to sustain happiness as a way of life, so to speak."

"My God, people are unhappy everywhere!"

"I was on a tour of the world and I went to many, many countries from New Zealand to the UK, from Japan to Korea from Pretoria South Africa to Offenbach in Germany, across the pond, over to Buenos Aires and so forth, and I said to myself: "My God, people are unhappy everywhere!" It's not just Americans who have to much, or people in South Africa who have very little in certain areas, its everybody in between, it’s just everybody.

What’s UP? Have I Missed Something?

It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with how much you have

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with how much you have or how much you earn or how much you are experiencing it, its just a pattern, seeing a pattern here, I'm seeing a whole world of unhappy people, relatively speaking, and no wonder, then, that we have such difficulty in our collective experience, and no wonder that we have such a struggle in what should be struggle-free life.

Is it supposed to be a struggle?

So I sat down and I started thinking about this a lot, and I connected with the muse, if you will, I checked in with God and said, "you know what, what's up here? What's UP???! Is it supposed to be a struggle? Have I missed something?"

"And so I wound up producing a book, as I said, in 12 days. And it was all so clear to me, and it was all so simple to me, and I thought well I got to share this. You know, I hadn't even thought about writing a book, I mean publishing it, I was really thinking it would be either a series of blogs, or some writing I'd want to do for a little pamphlet that I might put out, I wasn't really thinking about a full scale, regular, published book, but then it got real clear to me toward the end of the 12 days that I had a book here, so I called my agent and my publishers and I said here is something you may want to look at."

Lighten up the Journey

A happier life and to lighten up this whole quest for God

"And then I began sharing it with one or two people because I was excited about what I'd written and I showed it to two or three people and they were all very pleased with it and they began to see that this was a nice piece of work, something they could really get excited about, and then I began to look at maybe teach this material. There are I think 16 or 18 points, I forgot how many, in the back of the book, steps to having a happier life and to lighten up this whole quest for God, the whole quest for self-realisation, and just lighten up a little bit and give ourselves a break, and give ourselves a chance to step into a different experience of day-to-day existence".

The so-called "quest for peace" does not have to be undertaken in such a way that we all feel burdened by the opportunity

"So we put together a program in various forms, a one-day, a three-day, and an extended, program that just shares with people some of these principles that are found in the back of that book, and that's what's going on here, and that's what this is about. This is an effort to see if we can't lighten up the journey, and that's what we're talking about with people when we advertise it."

"Or for that matter, in our quest to change the world and to bring about a different kind of experience globally, the so-called "quest for peace", does not have to be undertaken in such a way that we all feel burdened by the opportunity."

The Secret Behind The Secret

"So that's really what we're doing, the book addresses that, the book also talks about, and I think this is very important, about the process by which we are creating, what we call in the book the 'process of personal creation'."

"What the book attempts to do is to dive a little more deeply into what I call loosely 'the secret behind The Secret', and share with people what really makes the process work; it's more than just sitting down and saying 'I want a new car' or 'I want a new partner'; it's larger than that and so the book addresses that head on, directly, and dives right into it."

Personal Creation for Masters

We're talking about the process of personal creation as it works for masters

"So I think that the book is exciting, and I think that the program is exciting and if we tell people what we're really doing here that we're talking about "the secret behind The Secret", that we're talking about the process of personal creation as it works for masters, people who really want to use the Law of Attraction and the power of creation in an more fundamentally profound way, and in a more joyous way, with regard to the living of our collective lives."

Happier than God is published in the UK by Deep Books from March 2008.
